FrostBoard requires an ID check before anyone can list, post, or message, because trust is the product.
When you see the "Verified Seller" badge, you know:
- This is a real person who proved their identity
- They're accountable if something goes wrong
- FrostBoard knows who they are
- If they scam someone, they're banned permanently and we have their information for law enforcement
That is the accountability an anonymous account cannot give you.
You Don't Need ID For Everything
ID verification is not required to browse FrostBoard. You can view every listing, every rummage sale, every event, and every conversation in The Lodge without verifying anything.
Verification is required when trust matters:

- Commenting and participating in The Lodge

- Viewing all listings and content
- Saving favorites

- Adding a profile photo and filling out your profile
If we let anyone message anyone without verification, we're no different than the platforms that let scammers run wild. The friction is intentional. It filters for people who want to be part of a trusted community.

The only reason you'd need to re-verify is if you delete your account and create a new one. That's it.
Changed your legal name? Just submit a support ticket with a copy of your updated ID and we'll handle it manually.
What the ID Check Costs
Every ID check costs real money, because our verification partner has to check each ID before anyone can list, post, or message.
Right now you are not the one paying it. Verification costs real money, but we want people on FrostBoard, so Clint is paying the bill through December 31, 2026.
Clint is a person, not a company, and he is glad to stand behind that.
How Verification Works
Upload Your ID
Take a clear photo of your government-issued ID.

Follow the prompts to take a selfie so we can match your face to your ID. The system will guide you through it.
Done
Your result shows on your Verification page. If a photo does not read clearly, you'll get a chance to retry right away.
Military Members
Please do NOT upload your military ID. Use your driver's license or passport instead. This protects your security.
Your ID is checked through our verification partner. We store your driver's license information and your ID check results to prove your ID verification.
What we store:
- Your name, email address, and phone number
- Your mailing address, if you add one
- Details from your ID, such as your name, date of birth, and document number
- Your ID check results from our verification partner
- Age confirmation (18+ or 21+ depending on category)
Who sees it:
- Other members see a verified badge next to a real name
- We do not sell your information

Having Trouble With Digital Verification?
We know technology isn't easy for everyone. If you're having difficulty with the selfie process or your ID isn't scanning correctly, we have options:
Mail-In Verification
Send us a photocopy of your ID along with a signed verification form. We'll manually review and verify your account within 3-5 business days. The extra fee covers the time for manual review. This option is available for anyone who can't complete digital verification.

Video Call Verification
We're working on adding live Zoom verification where you can hold up your ID on camera and speak with a real person. Stay tuned.

Questions You Might Have
We store your name, email address, and phone number, plus a mailing address if you add one. That is what we need to run your account and reach you if there is a problem with a deal.

You don't have to share your ID to look around. You can browse every listing, view every rummage sale, read The Lodge, and check out every event without verifying anything.
The ID check is required when you want to post a listing, host a garage sale, create an event, post in The Lodge, or message someone. Those are the moments when the person on the other end deserves to know who they are dealing with.
If you're not comfortable with the ID check, you can still browse and search as much as you like.
Some might try. Scammers count on staying anonymous, and the ID check ties every listing and message to a verified identity. Kids take part through supervised accounts linked to an ID-verified parent.
Each person gets one verified account, so if someone is banned, they cannot come back with the same ID. When the law requires it, we can share that identity with law enforcement.
No marketplace can promise that nothing will ever go wrong, but here there is a real name to hold accountable.
We accept a driver's license from any U.S. state, a state ID card, or a passport (U.S. or international).
Important for military members: please do not upload your military ID. Use your driver's license or passport instead. Scanning military IDs creates security risks we'd rather you avoid.
If you're having trouble with a specific ID type, click the Help button in the bottom right corner and submit a support ticket. We'll work with you.
It varies. You upload your ID and follow the prompts to take a quick selfie, and our verification partner checks the two.
If a photo is blurry or something doesn't match, you can try again. Some checks need a manual review, which takes longer. You can see where yours stands on your Verification page at any time.
Most failures happen because of blurry photos, glare on the ID, or poor lighting on the selfie. You'll get a chance to retry immediately.
If it keeps failing, don't give up. Click the Help button in the bottom right corner of your screen and submit a support ticket. We'll review your situation personally and find a solution. We're not trying to keep you out. We're trying to keep scammers out.
If digital verification just isn't working for you, we offer mail-in verification for $10 (to cover the manual review time).
Your verification status is tied to your account. If you delete your account and create a new one later, you'd need to verify again.
Keep your account and your verification stays with it, so there is nothing to renew.
